When packaging commits to the joke

Froot Loops are one of my favourite cereals. The proper radioactive American cereal, not the anodyne, watered down version sold in the UK.

Anyway, knowing I like Froot Loops, Cathy gifted me this pair of boxers made by Swag.

Don't worry. I'm not doing a review of the pants. What I really liked about this novelty gift was the way the packaging took the gift to the next level of humour.

Including the 'nutritional information'...

And adding in some puzzles for that retro 'something to read at the breakfast table' feel. (And, yes, I was one of the kids who would read the cereal box at the breakfast table!)

Feel free to do the wordsearch!

Cheesy cultural appropriation

I saw this for sale recently when I was looking for cheese to add to burgers. I was intrigued so I thought I would give it a go.

I'm pleased to report it worked really well as burger cheese in a cheeseburger. But there is a little nagging feeling that this is cultural appropriation of some kind - especially since this "Welsh rarebit" cheese was made in Leicestershire!

Rarebit has been a Welsh staple dish for so long that a joke about Welsh people eating toasted cheese is in an Elizabethan era joke book that Shakespeare seems to have used as one of the many sources he borrowed from.

The joke is that at a Welsh wedding there were ten cooks because each guest toasted their own cheese. Those hilarious Elizabethans!

Anyway, Tesco has brought Welsh rarebit into the modern era of packaged sliced cheese. I liked it. I'll probably buy it again despite my misgivings about this culinary cultural appropriation.

Asda staff humour makes Hallowe'en less horrible

Personally I don't know why you would want to fill your house with creepy-looking fake crows for any reason, let alone Hallowe'en, but I do admire the Asda employee who labelled these guys.

(I think they meant Sheryl Crow not Cheryl Crow, but stil 10/10 for effort!)

A clever joke about cryogenics and conspiracy theories

We went to see the slightly surreal Boothby Graffoe last Friday night. I liked this joke in particular...

"I took the kids to see Disney on ice. It was just his head."

(It's not funny if I have to explain it.)

The new word for fat

We had a conversation today at coffee time about how malted milk biscuits are sneakily bad for you because they’re full of hydrogenated fats. I commented how I have hydrogenous zones (complete with “seductive” stroking motion).

We all laughed. In fact, I laughed so much that my hydrogenous zones shook.

My cracker joke

Another groaner from life group. We'd had some leftover Christmas crackers and I was challenged to come up with a better joke than the ones people were reading out. Given that for some reason, the majority of jokes we'd had so far were about frogs, that was my theme. here's the joke:

"What do frogs watch on pay-per-view?"

"I don't know, what do frogs watch on pay-per-view?"

"Frog's porn." (Frogspawn, geddit?)

Like Bob (and, I guess, Ziggy)

Conversation at life group with a member who's going to Mali...

Kim: "I'm not sure what Malian culture is like..."

Me: "Lot's of reggae."

Kim: "Reggae?"

Me: "Yeah. Like Bob Mali."

Oh, how we laughed...

Wowsers!

My joke about male turkeys suffering more from bird flu is on the 'more soon' tag line on Newsbiscuit. Woohoo.

(Wait for the rolling headlines to move round to it!)

Another night, another Sean

I've been laughing a lot recently! We saw two comedians in two nights and they were both called Sean. First off on Thursday we saw Sean Hughes at the Sherman Theatre (or the 'Man' as Sean pointed out because half the lights were out on the sign), then last night we saw Sean Lock at St David's Hall.

It was the first time I'd been to the Sherman and it was a good venue - not too big, but not a club either. The bloke next to me fell asleep before the interval, which shows the seats were comfortable I suppose.

As you'd expect, given the time lapse, Sean's routine was very different from when we saw him about 11 years ago. He began with a bit based on his role in Coronation Street, and ended up talking about how he'd narrowly cheated death in the Tsunami.

There were some good jokes along the way like working in a factory producing subliminal advertising ("We only got paid £2.00 an hour, but everyone thought it was very reasonable"), and a large number of sex jokes. His method of dissuading trick-or-treaters from knocking on his door could backfire: "I just paint the word 'paedophile' on my door in big angry red letters..."

Sean Lock was a bit different. He seemed a bit lost in a big venue, and the first half of the show was quite flat. But he livened up in the second half, talking about his cure for baldness he was taking on Dragon's Den (basically pretending his hand was hair instead) and loads of other random bits and bobs. Plus, this one has to go down in the annals as the comedy show with the most unexpected ending - as he stripped off to reveal his secret identitiy as...

...nah, I'm not going to spoil it for you. You'll just have to guess.

Shining wit

"I shouldn't joke about OCD, but I just can't help myself..."

That one made a couple of people laugh in the office.
