Snack of the Month - spicy crunchy nuts

Cathy brought these Walkers Max double coated peanuts home for me to try (and to blog). They're something a bit different.

The description on the back sums them up. They are roasted peanuts in a crunchy shell dusted with a cheesy jalapeno flavouring. They make good on their promise for "max crunch" but they aren't teeth-wreckingly hard.

The bag is 175g and the recommended serving size is 30g. In case you're wondering, 30g looks like this. (Yes, I weighed it out.)

And here's a close up - where you can see the cheesy jalapeno flavour powder coating the snacks.

On the plus side Walkers did not skimp on the flavouring. The jalapeno has a real kick and leaves a pleasant afterburn tingle (if you like that sort of thing like I do). The serving size is just about the right amount, really, although it would be possible to pig the entire bag in one sitting while watching sport on TV. I know that would leave me feeling bloated and remorseful though, so I've been rationing them out.

Snack of the Month - deconstructed Snickers

This is a 'snack mix' version of the popular chocolate bar.

It's a hefty bag, weighing 300 grams. So, here is a sensible portion of 50 grams.

There are three components to the mix - roasted peanuts, small chocolate buttons, and caramel cubes.

The caramel pieces are very sweet. They have a crumbly fudge consistency rather than being chewy. The chocolate is generic Mars chocolate. They're also very sweet. The peanuts are roasted and are reasonable quality. They aren't greasy but it is a bit weird eating roasted peanuts that don't have any salt on them.

It's a decent snack. Good for munching on during a film or a TV binge. But it's not terribly exciting and an actual Snickers would be nicer.

Snacks of the Month - KitKat Pops and Noisy Nuts

Two snacks this month, and I haven't even got to the Christmas-themed snacks I've been saving since October.

First up, Cathy brought me these home from one of her shopping excursions.

"Love to Share!" Hahaha. I ate the whole bag. Here is what they look like in a small snack bowl.

They look a bit like kibble. Or maybe the droppings of a large rodent. The consistency is what you would expect from crushed wafer and crushed peanuts covered in the chocolate that normally coats a KitKat.

They were reasonably nice although they stuck in my teeth a bit. Realistically if I had a choice between these and an actual KitKat, I'd go for the KitKat.

Onto snack two, these were a discovery in Home Bargains, which is proving itself yet again a great place to find unusual snacks at a price where they are worth a punt.

These nuts are "noisy" in the sense that you are supposed to give them a really good shake to disperse the flavour through all the nuts.

I opened the smoky bacon jalapeno flavour - although the 'bacon' was entirely artificial in this vegan snack. You can see how well I shook the bag by how well-distributed the flavour dust is across the nuts.

Despite being bacon jalapeno flavoured, and despite my high calibre flavour dust dispersal skills, these tasted mainly of peanuts. The jalapeno spicy flavour was noticeable; the 'bacon' flavour less so. In fact, I probably woudn't have picked up that they were meant to be bacon flavoured if I hadn't been promised it on the packaging.

The packet of 'sweet Thai' flavoured Noisy Nuts is still sat in the snackbox. If I remember, I will include a review in a future Snack of the Month post.

Snack of the Month - Snickers Creamy Peanut Butter

I saw this in the post office next to the till and thought I would give it a go.

I like Snickers. I like peanut butter. Seemed like a surefire winner.

There are three pieces in the packet. They probably ship it in three pieces because they couldn't get enough structural integrity into a regular length chocolate bar.

The consistency is upside down to a regular snickers where the caramel and peanuts sits on top of the nougat fluffy stuff. In these the caramel and peanuts act as the base for a sweetened peanut butter topping.

I liked them, overall. The caramel made them a bit chewy, but they didn't last long.
